Gabriel Abrantes: Bardo Loops
Tate Modern
🌧️
Gabriel Abrantes presents Bardo Loops, a four-screen video installation that explores digital ghosts and the liminal states of contemporary existence. The title refers to the Bardo, this intermediate state in Tibetan Buddhism between death and rebirth. The Portuguese artist creates a hypnotic visual universe where spectral figures evolve in domestic spaces flooded with light or dreamlike landscapes. The four screens create a fragmented narrative that questions our relationship to technology, memory, and identity in the digital age. The images, both familiar and strange, evoke a world where the virtual and the real blur. The installation plunges visitors into a meditative experience that interrogates the boundaries between presence and absence, consciousness and unconsciousness.
