Gabriel Chaile: Archaeology of Memory - Whitechapel Gallery
Gabriel Chaile sculpts time and identity through colossal clay structures. For his first major institutional appearance in London, the Argentinian artist invests the Whitechapel Gallery with new works. Bridging anthropology and contemporary art, he transforms domestic utensils into totems laden with personal narratives. These earthy-toned ceramics evoke ancestral rituals while questioning current human displacement. Chaile’s work, who divides his life between Buenos Aires and Lisbon, gives an almost sacred dimension to the everyday. His organic forms, both fragile and imposing, testify to a culture in constant transformation. This dialogue between traditional techniques and modern sensibility is presented at the Whitechapel Gallery from April 1st to September 6th, 2026.
