Rachel Whiteread: Substitute

Rachel Whiteread: Substitute - Gagosian
The first woman to win the prestigious Turner Prize, Rachel Whiteread continues her fascinating quest for the invisible at the Gagosian Gallery. Here, old barn doors, marked by the years, serve as molds for a new series of paper mâché and silver leaf reliefs. By pressing the material onto raw wood, the artist captures the soul of the objects: every crack and every imperfection becomes an archaeological trace of time passing. These monumental sculptures, accompanied by photographs documenting her creative process, transform the ordinary into a poetic reflection on absence and memory. Until May 16, 2026, this proposal offers a privileged look at the work of a major figure in contemporary British sculpture, capable of freezing the immaterial with a rare delicacy.
