Voice of the Street – Keith Haring

Keith Haring transformed the dark corridors of the New York subway into an open-air art gallery as early as the 1980s. Armed with a simple piece of white chalk, he would occupy the vacant billboards to offer his artwork to passersby. The Moco Museum gathers thirty of these original drawings, rescued from a time when urban art was still ephemeral and subversive. Between 1980 and 1985, these spontaneous sketches gave birth to his global icons: radiant babies and barking dogs. A true laboratory of ideas, these nervous lines testify to the creative urgency of an engaged artist who wanted to democratize culture.
