In 1925, Carmen Martín Gaite was born, a major figure in 20th-century Spanish literature, celebrated on the occasion of her centennial. The exhibition at the Biblioteca Nacional de España offers an unprecedented journey to the heart of her work, through manuscripts, letters, and photographs. The work of this author, deeply marked by the years of the Civil War and reconstruction, explores human relationships and the female condition with a rare acuity. Martín Gaite, a singular voice, challenged conventions, dedicating herself to a writing attentive to readers and social contexts. The exhibition traces her intellectual journey, from her studies at the University of Salamanca to her involvement in the Spanish magazine group Española, then to her exploration of Italy and its authors. It also reveals the behind-the-scenes of her marriage to Rafael Sánchez Ferlosio and the birth of their daughter, Marta. A poignant tribute to a free and modern pen, accessible to all, from December 18, 2025, to May 17, 2026. Free.
