In 2026, Romanian-American artist Leonard Ursachi will present ‘American Arsenal’ at Canton Projects, a poetic and political installation exploring the vestiges of power and violence. At the heart of the exhibition, a mound of sand houses an imaginary arsenal, composed of impossible weapons sculpted in porcelain and ceramics, evoking memories of the communist era and American reality. These sensual sculptures, with surfaces distorting perception, are reflections on material and psychological arsenals. Ursachi, whose work has been praised by Elisabeth Sussman, uses raw and recycled materials to question legacies and identity shifts. The exhibition proposes a unique encounter between Ursachi’s sculptures and the photographs of Don Burmeister, documenting the impact of art on its environment. The work is free and accessible from April 2nd to May 9th, 2026.
