In 1980, Pat Oleszko already used a balloon to denounce social inequalities. Thirty-five-fifty-five years later, SculptureCenter presents its first New York exhibition, an unprecedented dive into the wacky universe of this Canadian artist. The exhibition brings together costumes, posters, photographs and moving images, transforming the two levels of SculptureCenter into an absurd theater. Oleszko, known for her monumental inflatables, uses humor and subversion to question authority and social norms. Colorful installations, such as ‘Blowhilda’ (1980) or ‘Big Pussy’ (1989), testify to her playful and provocative approach. The exhibition also reveals an archive collection, including manuscripts, objects and performances, offering a complete overview of her work. Free and open from January 29th to April 27th, 2026, this event is a unique opportunity to discover the work of an artist who has always “used the world as a clown.”
