Vasari and Rome - Musei Capitolini
On the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the death of Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574), the Capitoline Museums dedicate a major exhibition to the inventor of the “Maniera Moderna.” The architect, painter, and biographer of Renaissance artists maintained a privileged relationship with Rome that shaped his work. The itinerary presents more than one hundred works – paintings, drawings, manuscripts – that trace his cultural and artistic journey in the Eternal City. Vasari, famous for his *Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects*, was also a major artist who contributed to the dissemination of the Mannerist language. The exhibition explores his role in the construction of the myth of the Renaissance and his lasting influence on the history of art. A unique opportunity to rediscover a key figure of 16th-century Italian history.
