Vincenzo Scolamiero. With a Part of the Earth - Mattatoio
The title of this exhibition is taken from a verse by American poet Louise Glück, winner of the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature, and immediately announces a deep connection with earthly matter. Vincenzo Scolamiero presents a fifteen-year journey in his pictorial research, where the earth becomes both subject and material. His monumental canvases unfold abstract landscapes where pigments, textures, and pictorial gestures are intertwined. The works evoke geological formations, temporal strata, and the memories of the soil. Scolamiero’s painting does not represent nature but is permeated by it, creating surfaces where the material seems to have been deposited by the elements themselves. The route in Pavilion 9A at the Mattatoio reveals an artistic practice that interrogates our link to the planet, between destruction and regeneration, in a powerful aesthetic dominated by ochres, earths, and deep blacks.
