Rachel Whiteread: On Paper - Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert
Rachel Whiteread marked art history by making emptiness tangible. In the early 1990s, shortly after receiving the Turner Prize, the British artist embarked on an intimate experiment that remained largely in the shadows. The Hazlitt Holland-Hibbert gallery today unveils previously unseen works on paper, offering a striking contrast with her famous monumental structures. Using liquid correction fluid, ink, and watercolor, the artist captures the memory of objects on simple grid paper. These delicate studies reveal her creative process and her fascination with negative spaces. By associating these drawings with small plaster sculptures, the event highlights a pivotal period in her career. It is a rare testament to the fluidity that preceded her most massive works. On view from February 27 to April 18, 2026.
