The first British exhibition dedicated to Georges Seurat’s pointillist seascapes, this exceptional presentation brings together a selection of his maritime landscapes created in the 1880s. Seurat, famous for his scientific approach to painting and his pointillist technique, created marine works of remarkable serenity and beauty. The exhibited paintings depict the Normandy coast, ports, and beaches he painted during his stays in Grandcamp, Honfleur, and other seaside resorts. The exhibition explores how Seurat applied his theory of color division to the changing effects of light on the water, sky, and cliffs. Visitors discover a less known but essential aspect of Seurat’s oeuvre, where technical rigor serves a unique visual poetry. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to admire these masterpieces of pointillism in an intimate setting.
