In 2026, the Museo del Prado will unveil a first in its history: an unprecedented photographic exhibition exploring two centuries of its existence. 44 photographs, ranging from views of the exhibition halls to the storage of artworks, as well as restoration processes, offer a unique perspective on how the museum has been perceived and shared over time. This presentation, curated by Beatriz Sánchez Torija, highlights the pioneering contributions of photographers such as Juan Laurent and José Lacoste, key figures in the dissemination of the image of the Prado. The exhibition, open from February 2 to April 5, allows you to discover images dating back to 1899 and understand the evolution of the collection of engravings and prints. A rare opportunity to capture a valuable visual testimony of the history of one of the world’s greatest museums.
