Pia Fries: bridges & trees - Miles McEnery Gallery
Gerhard Richter, an iconic figure of German abstraction, has influenced Pia Fries, a Swiss artist born in 1955. The exhibition ‘pontes & arbores’ presents her new compositions, the result of a complex mixed approach. Fries integrates images of wood and pigments from her paint screens, printed directly onto wooden panels. This technique, combined with powerful pictorial gestures, creates multi-dimensional and sensory works. Influenced by Richter, Fries explores the tension between freedom and constraints, a theme explored through years of creation. The exhibition, free of charge, is accessible from May 14th to June 20th, 2026, offering a glimpse into the work of an artist whose unique approach, combining sculpture and painting, testifies to a constant search for textures and sensations. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to discover the work of Pia Fries, studied under Richter in Düsseldorf.
