Tess Michalik: Sea Violet

Inspired by Burke’s work on the sublime, Tess Michalik’s exhibition ‘Sea Violet’ explores the tension between fragility and strength, mortality and ephemeral beauty. This first solo exhibition of the artist with the Kathryn Markel Fine Arts gallery presents a series of paintings where the material dialogues with the gesture, evoking moments of vulnerability and emotional intensity. Michalik captures “bloom” moments – these intense flowering moments, almost like memorials to life. The works, created between April and May 2026, testify to a search for truth and a deep exploration of feelings. It’s an invitation to contemplate the beauty and fragility of existence.
