Martine Dawson captures the silent soul of Butte, a former mining town in Montana where the industrial past refuses to fade away. At the MEP Studio, her images reveal interiors inhabited by the shadows of the mines and the broken promises of the Westward expansion. This photographic work shows with unsettling precision how intensive extraction has shaped not only the landscape but also the intimacy of the residents. Each room becomes a stage for a collision between collective history and domestic life. From July 17th to September 13th, 2026, this artistic proposition invites us to observe the scars of a territory where the imaginary of the frontier remains omnipresent. It’s a fascinating journey into an unknown America, where the walls tell of sweat and earth. The European Photography Museum presents here a poignant and essential documentary work.
