Eighteen columns of red granite, formerly belonging to Emperor Caligula, support Giuseppe Valadier’s monumental staircase at the heart of this neoclassical building. Designed by architect Cosimo Morelli, this palace houses the city's soul through the centuries. The tour reveals rare treasures: fragments of medieval frescoes from the church Santa Maria in Vincis and precious mosaics from the former St. Peter’s Basilica. Between the busts of papal families and Giovanni Paolo Pannini’s paintings illustrating grand Roman ceremonies, daily life of old resurges thanks to an unusual collection of litters, costumes, and ceramics. A stop at the café allows direct access to the famous Piazza Navona to conclude this historical journey. Access includes the permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions currently on display.
