American Identities: David Levinthal & Chicano Prints

David Levinthal uses plastic figurines and miniature sets to deconstruct major founding myths, from the American West to World War II. At the H'ART Museum, his unsettling photographs engage in a novel conversation with a selection of chicano etchings. While one plays on illusion to question collective memory, the others manipulate graphic design as a weapon of resistance and cultural affirmation. This face-to-face between manufactured imagery on one side and Mexican-American social realities on the other offers a striking look at the construction of national narratives.
