Creating Space: The Constructivist Marlow Moss - Georg Kolbe Museum
Longtime overshadowed by Piet Mondrian, Marlow Moss was nonetheless far more than a simple disciple. Starting in the 1920s, this British artist challenged the codes of abstraction by introducing the “double line,” a major innovation that forced her famous contemporary, Georg Kolbe, to rethink his own theories. The Georg Kolbe Museum dedicates an extensive retrospective to this pioneer of constructivism, whose work transcends the canvas to seize space. Her metal sculptures, games of balance between stems and discs, appear to float, defying gravity. To enrich this journey, contemporary creations by Leonor Antunes and Tacita Dean resonate with this geometric heritage. It’s a rare opportunity to rehabilitate a radical figure of modern art, too long eclipsed by her male peers. A necessary rediscovery to be seen from April 2nd to July 26th, 2026.
