Reiner Maria Matysik casts his gaze far beyond our era to imagine the evolution of life after a massive extinction of current species. At the heart of the Zitadelle Spandau, transformed for the occasion into a futuristic laboratory, the German artist shapes a bestiary of organic and hybrid sculptures. These strange creatures, at the border between speculative biology and science fiction, seem poised to animate. By manipulating natural materials, the artist gives form to possible mutations and fossils of the future, directly questioning our impact on the global ecological balance. This singular journey confronts each viewer with the fragility of biodiversity while sketching the contours of a new biological life. The works are visible at the ZAK – Center for Contemporary Art from February 14th to May 3rd, 2026, offering a striking reflection on our responsibility in the face of environmental crises.
