Ideas of Africa: Portraiture and Political Imagination
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
⚡
From December 14, 2025, the Museum of Modern Art spotlights the sovereign face of Africa through the eyes of its own creators. Long stifled by colonial prisms, human representation becomes here a powerful tool for reasserting identity. This selection of works, blending photography, painting and monumental installations, brings together artists from the continent and the diaspora to question the intimate link between aesthetics and politics. Every canvas and every sculpture tells a story of cultural resistance, navigating between vibrant expressionism and pure minimalism. By placing the individual at the heart of the narrative, these artists transform portraiture into an act of collective liberation and introspection. A vital visual journey, accessible until July 25, 2026, that disrupts perceptions and celebrates the creative autonomy of a dynamic artistic scene in flux.
