MOCA PERFORMS – Crouching Dub, Hidden Riddim - New York
Ben Chin, alias “saxofshaolin,” will transform the Museum of Chinese in America into a sound laboratory on May 15th and 16th, 2026. This residency artist fuses his Hakka roots with Afro-Caribbean rhythms for a one-hour performance blending cinema and live music. On stage, classic martial arts films come to life to the beat of hip-hop and reggae, illustrating the historical dialogue between Asian cultures and Black diasporas. This spectacle, integrated into the “United in Sound” festival at Carnegie Hall, challenges stereotypes to celebrate an unprecedented cultural solidarity. Between tradition and modernity, Ben Chin offers a spiritual and rhythmic experience where the saxophone becomes a bridge between the East and the West. A unique opportunity to see how sound and image can forge new models of artistic collaboration.
