Sylvia Sleigh
Musée Rath
🍃
This British painter revolutionized the history of art by daring to do the unthinkable: submit the masculine body to "feminine gaze". Starting in the 1970s, she appropriated the languid poses of classical odalisques to place her male models, thus turning over the centuries-old dynamics of power. The Musée Rath dedicates a major retrospective to this central figure in feminist art whose work has marked the world until the early 2000s. Through portraits of rare intimacy and striking group scenes, her works question our perceptions of identity and desire. Her painting, both audacious and profoundly human, dialogues with the most current questions facing our society. A unique opportunity to appreciate this singular visual language, on view in Geneva from June 4th to October 25th, 2026.
