Wifredo Lam: When I Do Not Sleep, I Dream

Wifredo Lam transformed modern art by bringing European avant-gardes into dialogue with the spiritual heritage of the Caribbean. From November 2025 to March 2026, MoMA gathers an exceptional collection of spectral silhouettes and hybrid figures born from an imagination haunted by the dreams and political tensions of the 20th century. A close friend of Picasso, the artist managed to preserve a powerful Creole identity, visible in his monumental canvases where mysticism and Cubist structures blend together. These works bear witness to a quest for universality without ever renouncing his roots. Between meticulous engravings and vibrant compositions, the exhibition highlights the major influence of a creator who bridged the gap between the New World and Europe.
