Jasper Johns, David Zwirner

In 2026, David Zwirner will present an exhibition dedicated to Jasper Johns, the American artist renowned for his iconic reinterpretations – flags, calendars, eyes. The exhibition, titled ‘Copy/Trace’, sheds light on a crucial phase of his work, exploring the interaction between copy and original. The event offers a dive into Johns’ practices, notably through drawings and studies from the 1960s and 70s, some from the Art Institute of Chicago. The exhibition highlights Johns’ interest in the human body, used both as a subject and as a tool for creation. This work, often characterized by explorations of surface and texture, is presented in conjunction with the ‘Ripple’ exhibition, which is also being held in the gallery. The presentation includes dreamlike works and research on perception, reflecting the artist’s constant evolution. The exhibition will be open from May 7th to June 26th, 2026.
