In 1982, Sigmar Polke, after an exploratory period with photography and cinema, returned to painting with a radical approach. ‘The Dream of Menelaus’ is a series of four paintings, a major work of this period, which testifies to his audacious experimentation with toxic minerals – aluminum, manganese, ferrous mica – to create changing surfaces, evoking clouds or destruction. This exhibition, presented by VeneKlasen Gallery, offers a unique opportunity to observe these iconic paintings in their entirety. Polke, known for his critical gaze on society and culture, uses here complex pictorial techniques to question myths and representations of reality. The exhibition is free and opens from March 3 to May 30, 2026. A fascinating exploration of the work of a major contemporary artist.
