In 1633, Rembrandt was working on “The Descent from the Cross,” an iconic work exploring faith and sacrifice. Today, this same vision is reflected in “The Poor Man’s Rembrandt Project.” Henk Schiffmacher and his team of tattoo artists install a temporary studio at the heart of the Rembrandthuis museum to offer a unique experience: tattoos inspired by the master painter’s works. The project transforms the museum into a true studio, allowing the public to observe artwork being created directly on the skin, drawing inspiration from pieces such as “The Descent from the Cross.” This dialogue between printmaking history and popular culture questions the notion of copying and the link between artist and collector. The operation is a genuine bridge between traditional engraving techniques and a contemporary art form, accessible to all. Visitors will thus be able to wear a unique and lasting work of art on their body.
