Ulrich Seidl – About Life, Love, and Death - Eye Filmmuseum
In 1974, Ulrich Seidl captured the essence of an ordinary life in *Mario aus der Vergangenheit*, a work that foreshadowed his obsessive approach. At Eye Filmmuseum, the first Dutch presentation of his work explores the dark corners of desire, faith, and shame. The retrospective, using 35 mm films with their characteristic grain, plunges the viewer into a universe of silent pilgrimages, holiday mishaps, and weary bodies. Seidl refuses consolation, observing without filter the moments of human vulnerability, between Catholic self-considerations and the banality of leisure spaces. The *Paradise* trilogy – love, faith, hope – is accessible via streaming on Eye Film Player, offering an intimate echo to this immersive experience. “Eye on Art” screenings will be accompanied by debates between filmmakers and experts, exploring Seidl’s work from a critical and non-judgmental perspective. A unique presentation for those seeking to unravel the mysteries of existence.
