Counter City

In 2026, the Galerie Neu in Berlin will present *Counter City*, an audacious exploration of future urban landscapes through works by contemporary artists. The exhibition builds upon a critique of patriarchal capitalism and its spatial manifestations, highlighting practices of resistance and queer culture. Cosima von Bonin’s ‘Deeskalationstraining (Shark Lock)’ from 2007, a provocative installation, serves as a starting point for this reflection. A dozen artists – Jana Euler, Pippa Garner, Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings, G.B. Jones, Klara Lidén, Reba Maybury, Sophy Rickett and others – propose alternative visions of cities, using painting, sculpture, video and installation to challenge power structures. The exhibition, curated by Juliette Desorgues, is an invitation to question our social and spatial organization. It fits within a lineage of engaged art, exploring the relationships between power and space. Visit *Counter City* from May 2nd to July 4th, 2026.
