Forgotten for decades, the story of Henri James Simon, a prominent patron of Berlin museums, is resurfacing. This gallery, inaugurated in 2019, celebrates this Jewish man whose donations saved precious collections from the Nazi fate. Today, the James Simon Gallery is the essential starting point for exploring Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It offers a modern welcome to visitors, with ticketing, information, and a café. An exceptional space, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, respects the island’s architectural heritage. The terrace of the “Kupfergraben,” accessible even outside museum visiting hours, offers a stunning view. Access to this welcome center is a tribute to an unknown benefactor and a vital gateway to appreciating the richness of Berlin’s museum collections. Tickets starting from €14 await you.
