Jochen Klein

Jochen Klein, an artist whose life was tragically cut short by AIDS in 1997, sees his work finally fully revealed. Between May and July 2026, Between Bridges will present a retrospective of his paintings, sculptures, and paper works, the product of an intense and often unknown production. The exhibition highlights a body of work marked by a direct and uncompromising approach to themes such as vulnerability, sexuality, and death. Klein, trained in Munich with Hans Baschang, then a member of the New York-based Group Material, developed a minimalist and deeply introspective aesthetic. This first solo exhibition in Germany, coinciding with Berlin Gallery Weekend, offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the work of an artist whose work now seems of particular urgency. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between the Stiftung Between Bridges and the artist’s family.
