Arts of the Ancient Americas

Nearly three millennia of Indigenous creativity are on display through a completely reimagined journey at the heart of New York. This unprecedented presentation gathers masterpieces born between the first millennium BC and the 16th century, weaving a vibrant link between the peaks of the Andes, the lands of Mesoamerica, and the coasts of the Caribbean. These ritual and artistic objects testify to the technical and spiritual sophistication of fascinating civilizations, long before European conquest. The new scenography highlights the diversity of local traditions, offering a contemporary perspective on these centuries-old legacies. Visible at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 31, 2025 to January 29, 2026, this event constitutes a rare opportunity to admire the aesthetic power of an entire continent. An essential chronological and geographical panorama to grasp the complexity of the first American cultures.
