Before / After Thought

Inspired by explorations of the subconscious, the exhibition “Before / After Thought” invites reflection on instinctive creation. Seven contemporary artists – Robert Zurer, Anya Rosen, Amy Swartelé and others – present a series of twenty-one paintings where chance and emotion converge. The exhibition, presented by Collective Z, explores the tension between conscious planning and the deep impulses of the mind. The artworks draw inspiration from automatic drawing techniques and instinctive creation, as exemplified by Robert Zurer who “allows the image to emerge from the line.” Amy Swartelé, in particular, develops chimeric creatures from the superposition of colors and textures. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to observe artistic processes in action and to confront oneself with the unconscious. The exhibition is open to the public and represents an anchor for Collective Z’s work, which also offers events and opportunities for artists.
