In 1980, Jamel Shabazz captured the raw energy of Brooklyn with his work ‘Rush Hour’. Today, the Bronx Museum presents an unprecedented initiative: adolescents from the youth council have selected and interpreted major works from the permanent collection. This project, titled ‘Beyond the Margins’, gives young curators a voice, exploring themes of identity and community through their own perspectives. Participants, drawn from New York high schools, questioned the role of art in resistance and innovation, drawing inspiration from the work of contemporary artists. The exhibition is a unique collaboration between generations, offering an unprecedented look at art and its impact. Visitors are invited to reflect on the limits we challenge daily. This exhibition is free through January 3, 2027.
