Charles Atlas: Remembrances - Luhring Augustine
In January 2026, Luhring Augustine Chelsea will present an unprecedented collaboration between Yasumasa Morimura and Charles Atlas. The exhibition, titled ‘Anamneses’, explores the question of identity through performances and photographic reconstructions. Morimura, known for his staged recreations of masterpieces of classical painting, revisits iconic figures there, while Atlas continues to explore the fluidity of identity through his constantly evolving video portraits. This juxtaposition offers a fascinating reflection on how self-perception is shaped by representation, the role of the viewer, and performance. The exhibition highlights the tension between artistic heritage and the contemporary exploration of subjectivity. It fits within an artistic approach that questions gender norms and representations, offering a stimulating visual and intellectual experience. The exhibition will be open from January 30th to March 28th, 2026.
