In 1934, Jakob von Uexküll introduced the concept of “Umwelt,” this unique perceptual world that each organism experiences. The exhibition presented by Nino Mier Gallery explores this idea through fifteen new paintings by Christopher Astley. The artist uses a variety of materials and techniques to translate the subjectivity of sensory experience, inviting the viewer to consider how their own perception shapes their understanding of the world. Astley draws inspiration from Uexküll’s philosophy to create works that explore the limits of communication between living beings and the importance of individual adaptation to one's environment. The paintings, characterized by a vibrant color palette and complex textures, invite attentive contemplation of the details. This exhibition is an invitation to reflect on our own “Umwelt” and how we interact with the world around us. The artwork is accessible for free.
