Gary Hume

Inspired by the icons of erased animated films, Gary Hume presents a new series of twenty paintings at Matthew Marks Gallery. The artist, known for his bold use of industrial-grade gloss paint on aluminum, continues to explore the dialogue between abstraction and representation. His recent works draw inspiration from the motifs of the murals he has created, as well as figures in enamel, evoking themes of vulnerability and hope. Hume, a prominent figure in the British art scene who has participated in the São Paulo and Venice biennales, uses complex compositions, as demonstrated by his representations of swans. This exhibition offers a glimpse into his distinctive approach, characterized by vibrant colors and simplified forms. The event takes place from September 10 to 24, 2026.
