Created by Jean Arp during the 1960s, this late corpus of sculptures – including the often-overlooked ‘Threshold’ works – offers a previously unseen insight into the artist's thinking. This exhibition, presented by Hauser & Wirth, explores the complex relationship between cut-out and abstract sculpture, highlighting a crucial phase of his work. Arp, a major figure in Surrealism, develops an intuitive and poetic approach to form, seeking to translate states of mind and visual perceptions directly into space. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Stiftung Arp e.V., Berlin/Rolandswerth, and proposes an in-depth exploration of his late work. It relies on a collection of abstract sculptures, characterized by their simplicity and subtle balance, to reveal the evolution of an artist at the peak of his creativity. An essential presentation for understanding the richness and depth of Arp’s oeuvre.
