In 2018, Hiroko Ohno began to explore the depths of the universe with “Galaxy: Event Horizon,” a work inspired by research conducted by the Event Horizon Telescope project. This exhibition, presented from October 15, 2026, highlights the relationship between human perception and the invisible structures that shape spacetime. Ohno uses mineral pigments derived from millions of years of Earth’s formation – lapis lazuli, azurite, mica – combined with natural elements such as seashells and salt, to create monumental paintings. Her work, influenced by Tadaaki Kuwayama's Minimalism, invites reflection on humanity’s place in an immense cosmos, translating astronomical distances into visual proportions. The artist was inspired by her direct observations of the sky, including a trip to Chile to contemplate the Milky Way from the site of the ALMA observatory. This exhibition is an invitation to consider materials themselves as witnesses of timelessness and to rethink our relationship with the universe. The work is accessible for free.
