Hiroshi Sugimoto: Unnatural Habitat - Lisson Gallery
Since the 1970s, Hiroshi Sugimoto has captured the essence of ruined Japanese bathhouses, creating works that suspend time and evoke a deep nostalgia. The exhibition “Unnatural Habitat” at the Lisson Gallery marks a significant return to New York, exploring fifty years of dialogue between the artist and the city that nurtured his unique vision. Sugimoto revisits his famous Diorama series, including those recently made, offering a new perspective on his approach to photography. The exhibition presents striking images, testifying to a rare ability to transform abandoned places into idealized and poetic scenes. This dialogue between past and present, nature and architecture, is at the heart of Sugimoto’s work. The event is free and continues his exploration of visual history and memory.
