Joan Brown: The Golden Age

Starting in 2026, Matthew Marks Gallery will present ‘The Golden Age’, an exploration of Joan Brown’s latest works, a major figure in the American art scene. This exhibition highlights a series of twelve paintings and sculptures created between 1982 and 1988, capturing a period of intense creativity for the artist. Brown, whose career ended prematurely in 1990, left a legacy of powerful and emotionally charged images, characterized by vibrant colors and themes of everyday life. ‘The Golden Age’ offers a rare glimpse of his late work, often overlooked, and testifies to his commitment to figuration and the representation of the human condition. The exhibition is open from May 8th to June 27th, 2026.
