Life with P. Philip Guston: Paintings and Drawings 1964 – 1978

In 2026, Hauser & Wirth will present an unprecedented facet of Philip Guston’s work, exploring the years 1964-1978, a period marked by deep introspection. The exhibition, titled ‘Life with P.’, sheds light on the artist’s relationship with his muse, poet Musa McKim, and their life in Woodstock. ‘Poem Pictures,’ drawings reacting to McKim’s poems, stand alongside monumental figurative paintings, rarely exhibited. This project, coinciding with the release of an illustrated book of his personal journals, offers privileged access to Guston’s thoughts and observations on the human condition. The exhibition presents a collection of new works, revealing an artist seeking meaning and emotion after a period of intense work on his paintings.
