Nick Doyle: Lonely but Free I’ll Be Found - Pace Prints
Inspired by the figure of the ‘self-made man’ and the promises of America, Nick Doyle’s work explores the fissures at the heart of the American ideal. Through collages in deep blue tones – evoking denim and a subtle melancholy – he deconstructs familiar icons of everyday life: a lottery ticket, a folded shirt, a blank tachometer, a Coca-Cola vending machine. The exhibition ‘Lonely but Free I’ll Be Found’ thus examines the contradictions between individual liberty and social obligation, particularly through a critical gaze at the concept of self-sufficiency. Doyle uses materials such as cotton and pigmented paper to create digital compositions before translating them into fragmented physical artworks, reflecting a contemplative approach to the construction and reproduction of the image. This exhibition invites reflection on the consequences of this quest for freedom, and on how it shapes our collective identity.
