Pacita Abad: Door to Life

In 1998, artist Pacita Abad, fascinated by the architecture and decorative motifs of Yemen, embarked on a journey that would profoundly transform her work. The Tina Kim Gallery presents ‘Door to Life,’ her third solo exhibition dedicated to this period, an entirely new collection of her creations. These works, created after this crucial trip, testify to an intense exploration of colors, textures, and complex patterns, inspired by the palaces and mosques of the country. The exhibition highlights the diversity of techniques used by Abad, from her famous trapunto – decorated paintings with embroidery – to the introduction of the qamariya, a Persian geometric motif. ‘Door to Life’ offers a unique opportunity to appreciate the richness and singularity of Pacita Abad’s art, an artist whose work continues to captivate with its fusion of cultural influences and its innovative approach to creation.
