Inspired by the 17th-century Chinese scholar Mi Wanzhong’s quest to name his favorite stone – a story reflecting the paradoxical nature of beauty and form – Pete Schulte presents ‘Neither-Nor Stone or Not Not-a-Rock,’ his fourth solo exhibition at McKenzie Fine Art. The show features intimate, palm-sized graphite drawings that blur the lines between abstraction and natural forms. These delicate works, often described as ethereal, explore themes of perception and the elusive qualities of existence. Schulte’s process, rooted in meticulous observation and a quiet contemplation, results in pieces that invite viewers to consider the inherent ambiguity within seemingly simple subjects. This exhibition showcases a refined body of work, reflecting Schulte's continued exploration of form and meaning through subtle detail. The collection is free to view from September 9th until October 25th.
