Roy Dowell: Evidence to the Contrary

In 2026, Miles McEnery Gallery presents “Evidence to the Contrary” by Roy Dowell, an artist whose work meditates on memory and objects through paintings created with vinyl emulsion. Far from a simple exhibition, this collection showcases meticulous work where every layer of paint remains visible, evoking a sort of personal cabinet of curiosities. Dowell explores the relationship between memory and object, drawing inspiration from his daily life between Mexico City and Los Angeles. The artworks, composed of 25 unique formats, are meditations on memory and objects. The artist is drawn to this specific medium for its ability to preserve all layers, thus transcending time. An exhibition that offers a new perspective on artistic creation and its link with the perception of the individual. Enter an universe where the ephemeral becomes tangible.
