Saya Woolfalk: The WoodsWoman Method - The Bronx Museum - The Bronx Museum of the Arts
In 2024, Saya Woolfalk created ‘Birthing a New Sky’, a work exploring the harmony between humanity and nature through cosmic motifs. The ‘The WoodsWoman Method’ exhibition at the Bronx Museum delves into a speculative universe where the botanist-healer, the ‘WoodsWoman’, fuses science and spirituality to interact with the landscape. This immersive presentation, the result of a multi-year project, uses sculpture, video, and digital collage to construct a unique mythological narrative. The exhibition draws upon the museum’s permanent collections, including works by artists of color and those with ties to the Bronx, such as Huma Bhabha and Robert Blackburn. The project is more than just an exhibition; it's a laboratory where one observes Woolfalk’s creative process and which influences the design of her future installation at the heart of the museum. The exhibition is the result of a partnership between the museum and the Arts Initiative at Columbia University, offering a rich and accessible experience for all.
