Shared Memories - Bruce Silverstein Gallery
For over seven decades, Chester Higgins has captured the essence of African-American life through a monumental photographic oeuvre. The exhibition ‘Shared Memories,’ presented by the Bruce Silverstein Gallery, draws upon a collection of over forty works, ranging from black and white to color, testifying to a deep commitment to documenting the culture, identity, and heritage of Africa and the diaspora. This exhibition marks the third presentation of Higgins’ work at the gallery. It offers a unique perspective on crucial moments in history, from intimate portraits to vibrant community scenes. The exhibition is free and opens April 16th through June 18th, 2026. It represents a rare opportunity to appreciate the lasting impact of Higgins’ art on contemporary photography and his exploration of Black identity.
