Since 1968, the Studio Museum in Harlem has been a beacon for African American artists, a vital exchange space on art and society. After seven years of transformation, the institution celebrates its return to 125th Street with an immersive exhibition tracing its 57 years of history. This exhibition, the result of an ambitious $300 million project, recounts the museum’s evolution, from its beginnings on Fifth Avenue to its new home, and highlights its commitment to emerging artists and the community. The exhibition offers a captivating visual timeline, exploring the lasting impact of Black culture on art. Free to access, it provides a unique opportunity to discover the Studio Museum’s legacy and its central role in the contemporary art scene. The museum’s new structure, inaugurated in November 2025, doubles its capacity and amplifies its impact.
