From What I Gathered

Renelle White Buffalo, a Lakota artist, translates the landscapes of South Dakota into the heart of the city through an organic artistic approach. Her practice is rooted in a physical ritual: the climbing of hills to collect stones, fragments of earth carrying personal and cultural memories. By fusing painting, mixed media, and found objects, she creates textured artworks that transcend simple landscape observation. This first solo exhibition highlights contemporary Indigenous experience, transforming the act of gathering into a genuine spiritual meditation. Her layered compositions tell a story of resilience and belonging, honoring an ancestral heritage while challenging current aesthetic codes.
