Kawai Kanjirō: House to House - New York
Kawai Kanjirō, a central figure of the Mingei movement, is presenting for the first time on American soil with a selection of intimate works from his own collection. This potter of clay spent his life blurring the boundaries between everyday craft and pure artistic expression. From his early utilitarian ceramics to his mature, modern and audacious wooden sculptures, the journey traces the evolution of a free spirit who often refused to sign his pieces, preferring the beauty of anonymity. These treasures, previously preserved in his Kyoto studio-house, testify to an incessant search for meaning through material. It is a rare opportunity to admire the fascinating transition of a master potter toward organic abstraction, revealing the timeless modernity of his gesture. The event will take place in New York from March 10th to May 10th, 2026.
